Delivering excellence in dance training since 1960

Our founding Principal, Judith Hockaday, started The Judith Hockaday School of Dance & Drama in 1960, establishing a reputation for excellence both within the local area and the wider dance community. The school is now run by Heather Reynolds and Anna Pershin, both of whom have taught at the school for many years, as well as being former pupils of Judith Hockaday.

Maintaining the core principles and ethics that have made the school such a success, it continues to thrive as JHS Dance, based in the Old Town area of Swindon.

Former students of the school can be seen performing in the West End, UK and World tours, in Ballet and Contemporary companies, on cruise ships and in films. Students regularly gain places for further training at prestigious Musical Theatre and Dance colleges and many of our own college graduates are now teaching or running their own schools in the UK and abroad.

My journey with JHS started at the age of 13 where I developed such a passion for dance that I went on to join the JH College at 16, gaining my teaching qualifications. The amazing teachers not only gave me the essential foundation needed as a dancer but they instilled in me a sense of humility and drive, which allowed me to pursue my life long dream of becoming a showgirl in Paris. I could not recommend or speak more highly of the school. Here you always feel at home and I truly believe this is what makes people thrive. Forever grateful.

If it wasn’t for the wonderful training and mentoring from The Judith Hockaday School of Dance and Drama, I would not be where I am today as a professional Ballet dancer. I am eternally grateful for the incredible support from the school - even to this very day! I can’t recommend the level of coaching and education enough, and hope everyone tries their first class with this school - because it won’t be their last!
